Increasing consumption of antibiotics is anticipated to drive growth of Global Clostridium Difficile Infection Treatment Market. Global clostridium difficile infection treatment market is expected to witness a significant growth owing to the high prevalence of clostridium difficile infection. It is a leading cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea worldwide. For example; each year in the United States, about a half million people get sick from C. Recurrent C. Clostridium difficile also known as C. Illness from C. Its treatment depends on the severity of infection, local epidemiology and type of C. Except for perioperative prophylaxis, it is recommended that the use of cephalosporin and clindamycin be restricted for infection prevention. The development of novel antibiotics and alternative treatment strategies for clostridium difficile infection is gaining a great deal of attention in recent years.

In academic publishing , a scientific journal is a periodical publication intended to further the progress of science , usually by reporting new research. Articles in scientific journals are mostly written by active scientists such as students, researchers and professors instead of professional journalists. There are thousands of scientific journals in publication, and many more have been published at various points in the past see list of scientific journals.
Most journals are highly specialized, although some of the oldest journals such as Nature publish articles and scientific papers across a wide range of scientific fields. Scientific journals contain articles that have been peer reviewed , in an attempt to ensure that articles meet the journal’s standards of quality, and scientific validity. Although scientific journals are superficially similar to professional magazines , they are actually quite different.
Issues of a scientific journal are rarely read casually, as one would read a magazine. The publication of the results of research is an essential part of the scientific method. If they are describing experiments or calculations, they must supply enough details that an independent researcher could repeat the experiment or calculation to verify the results.
Each such journal article becomes part of the permanent scientific record. Articles in scientific journals can be used in research and higher education.

Anyone who has spent more than a few minutes watching some of the more partisan “news” networks lurking in the bowels of cable television is aware that America has grown more polarized in recent years. What’s not so certain is why. In a paper published online March 27 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences PNAS , a team of researchers at Stanford has devised a mathematical model that helps demonstrate what’s behind the growing rift. The prevailing sociological theory, known as homophily, is that like seeks like.

It would be a big surprise if a prominent journal published a study commissioned by the dating website eHarmony showing that people who met through online dating were more miserable than those who met through friends, work, bars, etc. Funny that such results rarely appear. The potential conflicts of interest here were at least as interesting as the results of the study, which entailed a large survey of couples married between and But the difference was really slight — on a marital satisfaction scale from one to 10, online-connected couples rated themselves at 5.
Most reporters caught on to the fact that eHarmony was involved. UCLA social psychologist Benjamin Karney said the study appears to have been well designed and conducted.

It was, in some ways, a less than propitious time to launch a journal—just a little more than seven months after the start of what ultimately became World War I. The hostilities that began in Europe led to disruptions in the scientific enterprise around the world, including science publishing—submissions to journals declined, subscriptions were canceled, and, in some cases, undisguised anti-German sentiments were expressed in editorials e.
Many scientists have been faced with difficult research decisions, often ending up pausing or discontinuing long-term projects, field-based studies, or international collaborations. At the same time, some have also experienced unbearably sad personal losses, of colleagues, friends, or family members who succumbed to the virus. Scientists continue to work, however, reengineering research in order to adapt to the new constraints imposed by the pandemic.
Virologists, epidemiologists, and medical scientists have continued their investigations with new urgency; many others, across the spectrum of biological, social, and physical sciences, have redirected their efforts toward understanding COVID in all of its dimensions with the goal of developing ways to limit its spread or ameliorate its terrible virulence.

Global declines in insects have sparked wide interest among scientists, politicians, and the general public. Loss of insect diversity and abundance is expected to provoke cascading effects on food webs and to jeopardize ecosystem services. Our understanding of the extent and underlying causes of this decline is based on the abundance of single species or taxonomic groups only, rather than changes in insect biomass which is more relevant for ecological functioning. Here, we used a standardized protocol to measure total insect biomass using Malaise traps, deployed over 27 years in 63 nature protection areas in Germany 96 unique location-year combinations to infer on the status and trend of local entomofauna.
We show that this decline is apparent regardless of habitat type, while changes in weather, land use, and habitat characteristics cannot explain this overall decline. This yet unrecognized loss of insect biomass must be taken into account in evaluating declines in abundance of species depending on insects as a food source, and ecosystem functioning in the European landscape.

EFFECT IN THE SOUTH POLE TELESCOPE SURVEY. D. R. SEMLER1 Online-only material: color figures. 1 To date, only a small number.
The study focused on a region of the brain called the ventromedial hypothalamus VMH and found that the removal of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 mGluR5 in that area caused estrogen to reduce the activity of neurons important for glycemic control, leading to insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. These effects were opposite to the increased neuronal activity and enhanced glucose metabolism observed in mice with the receptor following estrogen delivery.
The paradoxical outcome on glucose metabolism was seen in female, but not male, mice. Prior research by others had indicated that the VMH region of the brain plays a role in managing appropriate levels of glucose production in the liver and utilization of circulating glucose by cells and tissues. Within the VMH, steroidogenic factor 1 SF1 neurons are responsible for helping to regulate glucose as well as lipid levels, e.
However, less was known about exactly how the VMH regulates glucose metabolism. Similarly, while the beneficial effects of estrogen have long been recognized, the mechanisms driving these effects remain poorly understood. When the researchers knocked out the expression of mGluR5 specifically in the VMH using gene editing methods, they observed a reduction of SF1 neuron activity and a disruption of normal glucose regulation, but only in the female mice.
Knocking out mGluR5 in male mice did not have these effects and their glucose metabolism remained normal. Noting different effects on glucose metabolism between male and female mice, the researchers examined the potential involvement of sex hormones. They discovered that estrogen, which normally promotes metabolic health in females, supports glycemic control only when mGluR5 is present in the VMH.

Black babies in the US are up to three times more likely to die in the days and weeks following their births compared to white babies, a new study finds. But their survival odds vary drastically depending on who is in charge of their medical care. When black babies were cared for by black doctors, their mortality rate fell by 39 to 58 percent, according to George Mason University research. The damning report suggests that black doctors take better care of black babies and are just as capable when looking after white newborns – yet the overwhelming majority of doctors are white, heightening the challenge of improving care for black infants in the US.
An analysis of data on 1. The state of maternal-fetal mortality in the US is dismal, statistically speaking, when compared to other comparably wealthy nations.
